Mohs surgery is a technique of excising skin cancers by carefully mapping out the tissues removed and checking them in a microscope to determine where a skin cancer may still be present. In doing repeated excisions with the guidance of the microscope the entire tumor can be removed with a minimal loss of normal tissues. This is important because it preserves key structures such as the nasal tip, eyelid, or portions of the lip while still removing the entire tumor.
