Diet and exercise can help make you healthy, as well as help you look lean and muscular. For most individuals however, it does not remove stubborn localized fat deposits (LFD’s). Every individual’s fat distribution and body shape is genetically determined and hormonally influenced.
What this means is that often no amount of diet and exercise will remove those stubborn deposits of fat. Even if the individual is at an appropriate body weight, they will still possess areas of excess fat.
Liposuction is a procedure that permanently removes fat cells, thus sculpting the body, and doing what diet and exercise alone could not.
Liposuction involves the injection of the areas to be treated with a saline solution containing a numbing medicine and a blood vessel constricting medicine. This solution puffs up the fat, numbs the area and reduces bleeding allowing the gentle removal of the unwanted fat using a special suction cannula (tube) with minimal pain and minimal bruising.
Ultrasound Liposuction, such as VASER, is an instrument that uses sound waves to emulsify the fat and facilitate its removal with a liposuction cannula.
VASER is an ultrasound probe that emits hight frequency sound waves that create gas bubbles in the liposuction tumescent anesthetic fluid that loosens the fat cell lobules, emulsifies fat, and yet does not affect the blood vessels, nerves and fibrous tissues in the treated area.
Fat deposits treated with VASER are therefore more easily liposuctioned than conventional liposuction alone. These features of the VASER technology make VASER lipo a good choice liposuction of previously treated areas, for backs, and for gynecomastia where dense fibrous tissues are present. VASER useful for liposuction treatment of arms, hips, abdomen, waists, chests, breasts, backs, buttocks, inner thighs, outer thighs, and and knees.
The VASER liposuction is performed with the use of tumescent liposuction solution which distends the fat, and provides the fluid in which the gas bubbles produced by the ultrasound vibrations expand and collapse, and freeing the fat cells from the adjacent tissues. The fat becomes suspended in the infiltration fluid where it easily removed by the liposuction cannula.
Subsequently, skin contraction occurs as a result of the re-vascularization and remodeling of the skin and preserved subcutaneous tissues.
VASER liposuction is particularly helpful in treating gynecomastia or when performing repeat liposuction where the tissues tend to be firmer or contain scar tissue.
LASER technologies such as Sidelaze, Smartlipo, and Cellulaze are valuable enhancements to liposuction because these LASER devices vaporize the fat, release scarred and fibrous tissues, and tighten skin. These effects improve the results beyond liposuction alone, allowing for more effective sculpting of the body, and often reduces the need for skin excision and incisional scars.
PAL, or Power Assisted Liposuction, uses a liposuction cannula that pistons back and forth, breaking up the fat as the suction brings it into the cannula. This is useful for dense fat, or firm tissues as seen in gynecomastia. PAL is sometimes used after initially treating with VASER, or Smartlipo.
Elastic garments are helpful to provide gentle support and compression to the treated areas after liposuction.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes deposits of excess fat from specific areas of the face, neck or body. Liposuction is one of the most common procedures performed in the United States today. Liposuction can be used to slim the hips, thighs, flatten the tummy, shape the calves and ankles, or eliminate a double chin.
