There are individuals who would like to enhance their appearance, but do not want to undergo surgery and want as little downtime as possible. Many of them have turned to BOTOX® injections, a quick, virtually painless procedure. BOTOX® is a form of botulinum toxin that, when injected, temporarily weakens muscles that cause wrinkles. This treatment reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crow’s feet near the eyes and thick bands in the neck. Dr. Valauri’s technique is to weaken the muscles to reduce the wrinkles, and yet allow them to function when you laugh, thus avoiding the unnatural, “frozen face” look. BOTOX® treatments result in a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
BOTOX® injections take minutes to perform, depending on the number of areas treated and the size of the area treated. With BOTOX® injections, there is little or no discomfort involved, and most patients are able to return to their normal activities immediately after receiving treatment. Generally, the effects of your BOTOX® injections may last up to 6 months and further treatments may be advised. BOTOX® is quite safe and has been used in high doses for decades for children with spastic muscle disorders, with very few known side effects. These include temporary bruising, and mild muscle aches. Because some wrinkles are not solely caused by the underlying muscles they may remain even after BOTOX® treatment. These wrinkles may be improved through the use of injectable fillers. For this reason a combination of BOTOX® and Fillers may be necessary to achieve an optimal improvement. Additionally, BOTOX® and Fillers may be used in patient’s after eyelid and facelift surgeries to enhance their results.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple, nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people from 18 to 65 years of age. It is the only treatment of its type approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The Injection Process
The beauty of a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is that it’s a simple, 10-minute, non-surgical process. A few tiny injections, and within days there can be a noticeable improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between the brows that can last up to 4 months. Results may vary. And there’s no recovery time. You can even do it on your lunch break.
Your doctor will administer several tiny injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic directly into the muscles that cause those moderate to severe frown lines between the brows.
Your doctor will determine where to administer the injections by examining your ability to move certain muscles in your brow area. The location, size, and use of the muscles that create a furrowed brow vary markedly among individuals.
No anesthesia is required, although your doctor may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream prior to injecting. Discomfort is usually minimal and brief.
You can expect to be in and out of the physician’s office without downtime. You may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows within days. Improvement may continue for as long as a month, and could last up to 4 months.
What Is Botox®?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinumbacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those frown lines between the brows to form over time.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is approved for the temporary treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people ages 18–65.
Why would you get treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic?
You think those stubborn frown lines between your brows make you look tired or upset.
It seems like something that you could do to help maintain your appearance.
After treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic you may look in the mirror and see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows. But BOTOX®Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance. You can still frown or look surprised—without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.
BOTOX® Cosmetic works by temporarily reducing the contractions of the muscles that cause those persistent frown lines that have developed between your brows over time.
Within days, you may see an improvement that can last up to 4 months. Results may vary. If you do not continue treatments, the frown lines between your brows will gradually look like they did before treatment.
Results may vary.
In fact, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) ranked BOTOX®Cosmetic as the most popular physician-administered aesthetic procedure in the United States for the fourth year in a row (surgical and nonsurgical combined).
Botox® for Men
BOTOX® Cosmetic is certainly not just for women. Women may talk about their looks more often, but men are concerned about their appearance as well.
In nature, some male species have all the luck when it comes to looks. Think about a peacock and a peahen. It’s the male who’s got that gorgeous train, not the female. And the father of the lion family is the one with the glorious mane. With humans, it doesn’t always work that way, but the fact is, guys do care about their looks.
Why shouldn’t they?
A man who goes to the gym to work out and cares about his clothes and grooming is a man who not only cares about his appearance, but what it says about him personally, as well as in business.
Men are also doing something about their brow lines
A man who has pronounced lines between his brows may be perceived as angry or stressed—and he doesn’t want to look that way. That’s why it’s not surprising that men are also choosing BOTOX® Cosmetic, a non-surgical, physician-administered treatment.
A BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment requires little time out of the office. So, it’s possible to have the procedure done during a lunch hour and head right back to the office.
